Feeling a little overwhelmed? There might be a long way to go before it’s all over but there’s many home truths we have learnt as a result of this pandemic. Being home bound over the past months has seen just how pressing having a cluttered home or office can impact our health. However what's equally or more pressing is the impact of having a cluttered mind! A cluttered mind is restless and unfocused. It tries to do too much, overcomplicate things, only to to get very little done. A cluttered mind can be immersed in worry, stress, and overwhelm which can become a heavy weight that constantly keeps you down. It can lead to indecision, mess, weight gain, and self doubt just to name a few. But fortunately, this doesn’t have to be your reality. You can create a clutter free mind and life with less stress and more ease no matter what’s happening in the world around you! By decluttering your mind through the power of decision builds mental strength, confidence and a heightened level of self control and focus. This in turn helps to bust stress, worry, overwhelm, and the dreaded self doubt. But what if self doubt constantly gets the better of you? What if you’ve tried and tried to bust this little bad boy but it keeps on rearing its messy little head? Decision is the ultimate power. I sat in on a seminar some years back by Leah Mether a Communications and Soft Skills Specialist who spoke about ways of dealing with self doubt that had some great substance. The power of decision when it comes to decluttering is something that goes hand in hand when it comes to living a clutter free life and combating self doubt. So here are 5 Top Tips for dealing with self doubt that will help you to create a clutter free mind and home with less stress and more ease. It’s time to start taking decisive action so that you can stop feeling so overwhelmed, get more done, and gain more clarity in your home and life. So let's get started... Tip 1: Expect Negative Thoughts It’s important to reflect but not overthink it. Self doubt protects you from humiliation or the fear of falling flat on your face, so feel the fear and take action. Tip 2: Look at it objectively Self doubt is not you, just because you may say so, it may not be true. It could very well be the story you tell yourself. Ask yourself, would you say that to a friend? If you wouldn’t say it to a friend then don’t say it to you! Ask, does that item bring you joy? Is it something you could utilise in your space, or does it need to go? Tip 3: Talk back at it This is a great way to calm the inner critic by acknowledging it and settling it down. This carves the path so you can focus on what really matters and needs your focus, time, and energy. By saying ‘thanks but no thanks, I now choose…..(insert new focus here)’ will help to keep you on the right track. Journaling it out can also work wonders, I have a great journalling strategy that's part of my 12 weeks to clutter free living program so click here to find out more. Tip 4: Reframe Failure There’s no such thing as failure, only feedback on what to do differently next time. There’s also no such thing as perfection, it’s a method of procrastination. When you’re scared of getting it wrong or failing instead; try, adjust, and adapt. It’s only failure if you don’t try or fail to implement the learnings so be sure to find the diamond in the rough and act. Tip 5: Train your brain
It’s not about confidence, it’s about courage! Train yourself to notice when your doubt is at it’s worst and undertake tip 3. Be brave and believe in yourself. Life is not a practise run, this is it! Whether you do or don’t, time still passes by anyway so do what makes your heart sing, and keep what brings you joy. Because after all, time waits for no-one!
