Did you know that action reduces fear? In fact before you can start to experience the feelings of confidence you first need to take action. Just like optimism, willpower, and resilience, confidence can have a tendency to dissipate when faced with the memory of when we have failed. In fact we delete, distort, and generalize information as we process it every second of everyday, and at times past experiences if faced with such failures can impede your confidence, and prevent you from taking action in the now. This can leave you expecting the worst-case scenario, avoiding situations, and hold you back from achieving your lifestyle goals. So how does knowing this help with building confidence in action, I hear you ask? Confidence isn’t a thing, it’s an ongoing journey’ I had the pleasure of listening to Public Speaker, Consultant, and Author of the Confidence Workout - Michelle Landy, and one of the biggest take homes was that ‘confidence isn’t a thing, it’s an ongoing journey’. Confidence is a practice; it’s something we can weave into our daily lives. Taking Action is what builds confidence, as does focusing on the outcome at hand whilst being in the now and building solid foundations within. It’s not about the need to get it right; it’s about knowing you can recover even if and when everything goes wrong. It’s about befriending that inner voice and thanking it as it tries to protect you and keep you safe. A great strategy that will help you in building upon such thoughts to breed confidence in action is as follows:
Step 1. Observe your thought Step 2. Take it in as valuable information Step 3. Make a decision Step 4. Take action Not only will this help in calming the inner critic, it will also have you taking action towards nailing your goals. So here’s to taking action team because you’re worth taking action for. Nicole x.
