Life weighing you down? Then perhaps it’s time to reclaim your time and space? Whether it be constantly juggling it all, to forgetting to pay that bill, or feeling overwhelmed with your never ending to-do list. Feelings of stress and overwhelm can cause a lot of mental and physical clutter in your life. Having such stressors continuously playing a roll in your life can trigger fear, anxiety, and emotional stress which can come at a high cost to your health and wellbeing. Whether it be mentally, emotionally, or physically it can cause clutter to form in all sorts of ways. From hoarding, to negative thinking, and ongoing emotional stress that can bring about health effects such as increased blood pressure, weight gain, fatigue, depression and much more. In fact letting go and the act of decluttering are 2 very different things! Decluttering is an action undertaken that focuses on removing things you do not need from a space in order to make it more pleasant and useful. Letting go on the other hand means being brave and displaying the act of courage to move forward to get to where you want to be. It focuses on not holding onto stressors and things that weigh you down to instead accept the things you cannot change and take action on the things that you can. With letting go, comes creating flow - Nicole Salmon Holding on to things mentally can lead to intense mental anguish and stress. It can trigger all sorts of things that can cause you to feel stuck, overwhelmed, and unhappy, which can prevent you from moving forward and achieving your lifestyle goals. By letting go of what weighs you down will help to create space for a new way of thinking and living. This can mean creating space for change to occur which will bring about a different lifestyle result. From setting new boundaries, and expectations of behaviour to creating healthier habits and decluttering a space in your home. These types of changes will lighten the load and bring you a sense of ease and flow. By doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is one action that can keep you stuck. As is fearing the change all together and not taking action at all. But realistically ‘to let go’ often means change is inevitable if you want a different result in your life. Whether you want to lose weight, clear the clutter in your home, or let go of what weighs you down. All such actions can initially require courage, grit, focus, and energy to create the change and cement new habits and a healthier way of life. All change is hard at the start, messy in the middle, and beautiful at the end But where do you start when it comes to letting go? What might you need to let go of? And what are some of the things you may need to let go of that can help you in living your ultimate, clutter free life? Arghhhh… Even just the thought itself can land in the too hard to do basket 🧺 I listened to a fantastic talk by Jill Sherer Murray who spoke candidly about the unstoppable power of letting go. In this she addressed some of the key life principles of letting go of fear and moving on with your life. So here are 5 of her simple ways of letting go that I know for a fact have helped many that I've work with that I’m sure will help you in getting started too: #1 Let go of taking things personally Stop spending time stressing over things that may not even be about you in the first place. Focus on what’s within your control, it's how you choose to react to it that matters. #2 Let go of what other people think Judgement unfortunately is often inevitable whether it be good, bad, or sometimes ugly 😖 A great woman once said to me ‘what other people think of me is none of my business’. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and they are all opinions based on one’s own perception. What this also means is that sometimes such opinions or perceptions may not even be true, which is why gossip can often change 10 fold by the time word of mouth gets to the second or third person. So if they aren’t a raving fan, let that be ok too, and always, absolutely always stay true to you! #3 Let go of trying to be something your not Jill speaks about a part of her personality she calls ‘the big’ some love ‘the big’, others want to run away from ‘the big’ but as hard as she tries 'there it is'. There are some things we just can’t change about ourselves and that’s a good thing. #4 Let go of the need to be perfect Feeding the need for perfection can be about constantly keeping the house clean, the dogs groomed, the kids healthy, and the bosses happy. It’s okay to have mess, and sometimes feel stressed 😩 After all, each and every one of us are all imperfect beings! #5 Let go of 'not yet' If theres something you want to do, then make a plan and act! Stop putting things off or keeping them in the ‘one day’ (never comes) basket. Make every day count, because who knows what tomorrow has in store, let alone the next second of our lives. Stop waiting for that one day that may never come. So ‘let go’ for it…. x Want to clear your clutter once and for all? Are you ready to reclaim your space and time?
