Sick of not being able to see the desk from the papers? Or maybe your finding yourself losing track of your to do list with what’s still to be done? What we accumulate in our day to day lives might surprise you. From physical elements such as papers and bills, to the mental notes and clutter from unanswered emails and messages yet to be replied. One question I get asked often is how do you keep your desk space and home so clean and in order? The truth is… I was that girl that always had the clean room as a child, I loved having things in their place, yet I was (and still am) a creative who enjoys moments of sprawling things out on my floor when I am in my creative zone. Whether it be developing my next facebook livestream, to painting a piece of artwork. I believe having spaces in your home that reflect what you want and need of them is a must to living a healthy happy lifestyle. For me its about having systems and strategies that support my health and that of my family. However all that being said, as a mother and business owner working from home the very thing I used to find challenging was keeping an organized office space in amongst everything else happening in my life. The office space seemed to become the place where things would get placed that had no home such as the paperwork that hadn’t been filed into a system. However with the shift from document papers to online documenting, now instead we are also faced with the bombarded email inbox, the electronic invoices, and payment tracking systems, rather than the physical filing systems, so although you may have space on your desk (or still may not), you open your computer to a screen full of mess and chaos. There is also such a thing as organized mess. Meaning some people have mess, yet know where everything is located within that mess. However imagine if you had it labeled, filed, clean and clear? How much better that would feel rather than wasting two minutes of you’re time sorting through the pile of paperwork or searching your computer file to get to that important document in the first place? Although we have great technology and apps to help us in keeping track it can still weigh on you. From the bills that are due, to that person you had to call yesterday. The tasks start to mount and you can find yourself beginning to lose track of who, what, when, and how you even got to this stage, and when you stop and look around at the clutter that has formed you can begin to see why. This I like to call is being in the midst of the chaos, where your environment slowly begins to have control over you, and you feel like your constantly chasing your tail to catch up let alone get ahead. It can happen to all of us at numerous stages of life. But what if having a clean and clutter free desk space was as simple as making your bed in the morning? What if each morning you walked into your office space and felt a sense of ease and focus and enjoyed being in that space, in fact were drawn to being in that space? What if every moment you walked into your office space it was clean, clear, and organized? Well this healthy habit will help you to achieve just that. A simple habit such as clearing your desk space as you go about your day or every night before you clock off can have big health benefits. It can help you to tie off your end of day tasks, whilst preparing you for what you need for the next day, to clearing the clutter which helps your life to flow better and more at ease. It can move you to a state of calm whilst staying focused on the task at hand all at the same time. Whether its refilling your water bottle ready for the next morning, to placing your healthy morning snack, to filing the work from one of your projects as you finish up on the actionable tasks and set your areas of focus for the next day. This healthy habit is what will help you to set up your office space for success and prioritise matters the most. So there you have it team...
