With New Years Resolutions in full swing, time is a ticking and what better time to make sure you kick your health and fitness regime into gear than now. However this can mean extra pressures to ensure you’re getting your workouts in on a regular basis on what can be an already busy schedule. So what does this mean for your exercise regime when you miss the boat, and find yourself completely derailed from your great intentions? Missing your workouts can have you feeling guilty, or as though you have failed. It can also leave you feeling sluggish, and the drop in momentum can find you slipping back into old habits and patterns of behavior sooner than you can say Happy New Year. The guilt can start to eat you up, and you can feel as though you have set your self up for failure before you’ve barely started. Want to know how can you not feel defeated after missing your workout, and reset yourself to get back on the road to riches again? These 3 life hacks can help you in acing your health and fitness goals and getting more spring back in your step. The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today’ #1 Don’t beat yourself up Not only will this ease your stress levels and leave you feeling more energized, it will also help you to train your brain. Negative self talk that can arise from bailing out of that morning run because your not in the mood, or skipping spin class because your feeling lazy can haunt your head for the rest of your day. The old ‘I feel fat’, or ‘I might as well eat that extra chocolate because I’ve already fallen off the wagon, I’ll start again tomorrow kinda thing.’ Can completely impede your focus, and ultimately prevents you from moving forward leaving you feeling stuck. So when and if you do miss that work out, look at it as a simple decision. Is it ‘yes’ or ‘no’ and if it’s no, what else can you focus on to keep your health on track? Then set a day/time for when you are going to complete your next workout and hold yourself accountable too it. After all it’s as simple as a decision. #2 Work out what’s preventing you When you look at your lifestyle, what are the reasons for you not getting to the gym or going for that walk? Is it lack of time, working long hours, or extra family demands? Take a look at your lifestyle as whole and identify what’s preventing you from getting your workout in. If it’s mind over matter, get those shoes on and walk out the door before you get a chance to talk yourself out of it. Or have your gym gear by your bed the night before and place your alarm away from you so you have to get up to switch it off bright and early in the morning, and get cracking. #3 Take Action Our bodies need a break every now and then, and dragging yourself to a workout when your not going to give it 110% isn’t going to do a lot for your body and overall weight management either. In fact the occasional rest day is actually good for your health. However the hidden habit hack here is to listen to your body and take calculated action. By this I mean make the decision that’s right for you, your body, and your goals, and if you are just having a lazy moment (and deep down you really know you need to up the ante) then by all means workout and try to move through it to find your groove. It’s in action that builds momentum, which breaks patterns, and leads to growth, so go get moving! Remember, it's all in the action, time is of the essence let's make it count, Nicole x.
