Join me on my blog as I share 10 tips for a clean and clutter free closet that I live by every day. Not only does having a tidy closet help you to get ready for your day with less stress and more ease. It also gives you extra space that instills a sense of calm and ease. Combine this with a healthy and sustainable morning routine that flows and you will be moving into your day with a lot more spring in your step. Out of clutter, find simplicity But so often our wardrobe can become a space that can be left cluttered, messy and unorganized. That small stack of clothes can continue to pile up and before you know it you forget what you have in the first place, let alone what you will wear for the day. You can be left feeling stressed and anxious about the lack of time you have to get ready not to mention the work meeting you need to be at in 30 minutes time, all whilst you still have to iron that work shirt you forgot about the day before. Arghhh… Does this sound familiar? Never fear, todays 10 tips for a tidy closet will help you get ready for your day with less stress and more ease, leaving you with a clean and clutter free closet in no time. So let’s get started! Tip 1. Plan your week ahead Just like meal planning, closet planning is also important so set aside 5 minutes of your time to piece together the outfits you need for the week. Not only does this save time in the long run, it also takes the stress out of what to wear each and every day. Tip 2. If you don’t use it, lose it I love the flip your hanger trick whereby when you wear something from your hanger you turn the head of your hanger around to face the opposite way and after a period of time you can see what you wear often and what never gets worn, this can help you to identify what you naturally gravitate to and what might just be clutter in your closet. Tip 3. Clear out what you don’t wear on a regular basis Whether it’s to your local donation store, or selling it on ebay. If it’s not getting utilized and you think you probably won’t wear it in the future, then get rid of it, because it often ends up becoming clutter otherwise. Tip 4. Hang or store your handbags This keeps them off the floor and gives them a space to live, especially when you use them on a daily basis where they can get left elsewhere in your home like your kitchen table or bench which can easily form clutter in other areas of your home. Tip 5. Place items in sections i.e. pants with pants and tops with like tops, this helps to create more order when pairing your pieces together, and makes it easier to see what you have in each category. You can do this with drawers as well as hanging space if you have it. Tip 6. Store clothes so they are always in full view This will help you to see what you have in your closet, making it more likely that you will utilize what you have more regularly. Tip 7. Seasonally review your closet I love moving with the seasons on this one because I find it naturally flows with the weather and type of clothing that I have as focus for my season ahead. I give my closet a good clean whilst I do this, which always keeps it uplifted and fresh. Tip 8. Make use of the top of your wardrobe with storage baskets I put my occasional accessories and wear in this section with items such as snow / hiking gear and swim wear that I only use on occasion. This way it’s not in your space every day whilst you’re accessing your closet for your everyday attire. Tip 9. Give everything a home By organising and storing everything in its rightful categories means no stray belts lying around in your jean drawers and everything is easier to locate when you need it. I love to sort both my clients and my closet by category and color, which always makes it feel clean and clear. Tip 10. Add some extra storage
Products such as storage space dividers can help in keeping smaller items more organised, so leave enough storage space for accessories such as belts and scarves etc. Hanging organisers can also be great to store these types of items if you have a smaller space.
